Chronology
Our Journey Through the Years
Established as a Pre-Primary School at Jhamsikhel.
The School shifted to larger premises in Kupondole Heights adjoining the main road near the Himalayan Hotel in 1982 to accommodate increasing enrollment.
It moved to Gushigal in Kupondole, away from the main road for safety consideration and also to give a bigger compound and a larger playing area for the School children.
Produced the first batch of SLC students in 1989 with 8 students. The School moved into its present rented premise at Sanepa Heights comprising of an antiquated Rana Palace, popularly known as Shanta Bhawan with modern amenities and other smaller buildings housing classrooms in an area of 10 companies with a wide garden in the front. The Day School provided education to over 1400 children from Pre-Primary to Grade X from the valley and outside. The School had state-of-the-art computer drome, audio-visual aids, well-equipped science laboratory and a library stocked with a wide selection of reference books, classics, contemporary novels and major periodicals.
Higher Secondary (10+2) School affiliated to the Higher Secondary Board of Nepal was established. It is located at Jhamshikhel in its own premises covering an area of 20 companies with all modern amenities and equipment necessary for the mental, emotional and physical growth of young minds at the higher level. The Plus Two School provided education in the three streams of Science, Management and Humanities.
Gyanodaya College affiliated to the Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, was established. It offered a three-year programme in Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) with plans afoot to start other streams in science and humanities too in the near future. The College was located in the same compound as the Plus Two School.
Residential School exclusively catering to boarding education for children from the valley as well as outside was established. It had about 350 students studying from Grade I to X. It is located in its own premises at Bungamati, Khokana, on the outskirts of Kathmandu but easily accessible by road. It is situated in a land sprawling an area of about 100 ropanies surrounded by the lush green forested slopes of the Hattiban hills in the south-west and verdant agricultural cultivation in the terraced slopes of the Bungamati hills in the northeast. The School is equipped with all modern physical infrastructures --- playgrounds, a multi-purpose auditorium, access to information technology, state-of-the-art audio-visual aids, science laboratory and a well-stocked library - essential for academic growth and extra and co-curricular development of children in an environment conducive for learning. The School also houses a professional medicare team to attend to the regular as well as emergency health needs of the hostel inmates.
This, in fact, marked the culmination of years of Gyanodaya's active but informal involvement in social service and community work to uplift the condition of the deprived and underprivileged as well as help in the rehabilitation of the victims of natural calamities. For Gyanodaya, it meant the institutionalization of its long contribution in the area of social and community affairs. At the community level, it meant the realization of the educational aspirations of many underprivileged and backward community children and illiterate adult women. This Division has a Pre-Primary School with complete facilities --- classroom, teaching aids, play area, library, etc. --- and provides free uniforms and footwear to children of the area attending the school. It also runs informal education classes for all interested adult women at the Centre every day from Sunday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Presently, some 30 children and a sizeable number of women are benefiting from the programmes run at the Centre.
